Amazon MGM Studios has restructured its film division, naming Julie Rapaport and Alana Mayo as joint Heads of Film, Production and Development, according to TheWrap. The change was announced Tuesday by Courtenay Valenti, the studio's head of film, streaming and theatrical, in a memo to staff.
Each executive will oversee roughly half of the studio's film slate — about 15 films per year apiece — as Amazon MGM's output has grown past 30 films annually across theatrical and streaming, TheWrap reports. Mayo, who runs Orion Pictures, is being promoted to join Rapaport in the post, and both will report to Valenti. In her memo, Valenti wrote that output now spans "more than 30 films a year across theatrical and streaming — growth that reflects the trust our studio has built with the creative community."
Valenti framed the move as a way to match the studio's scale and drive greater creative output. She stressed the studio is not creating separate pods or siloed teams: senior production and development staff will work with both leaders across the entire slate, whatever their formal reporting lines. "We remain one unified creative team," she wrote, according to the memo.
The two will also partner closely with marketing, content strategy, finance, public relations, theatrical distribution and Prime Video programming to align creative, business and financial decisions across the film team, Deadline reported. Physical production, business affairs, casting, consumer insights, studio operations, music and worldwide theatrical distribution will continue reporting to Valenti.
The reorganization comes as Amazon MGM cements its status as one of Hollywood's fastest-growing studios, balancing theatrical releases with Prime Video originals. With a 30-plus-film annual slate spanning all genres, the dual-leadership structure is designed to keep greenlight decisions moving at the pace the pipeline now demands — a bet that scale, managed well, becomes a competitive advantage.
