On October 1, Ethiopian Airlines will resume flights to Enugu.

In the year 2019, the airline ceased operations in Enugu.

Ethiopian Airlines has announced that flights to Enugu, Nigeria's southeastern city, will restart on October 1st, the 61st anniversary of the country's independence.

Flights to Enugu were halted two years ago by the airline.

Shimeles Arage, the airline's General Manager, confirmed the anticipated resumption in a statement made in Lagos, saying that a flight using a B787 Dreamliner would be operated three times a week on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.

“Oct. 1 is Nigeria’s Independence Day and the flight to Enugu on that day will reinforce Ethiopian Airlines' good relations with Nigeria since the first flight to Nigeria in 1960,” he said.

Ethiopian Airlines halted operations to Enugu in 2019, when the Nigerian aviation authorities shut down the airport to rehabilitate the runway, according to Arage.

Ethiopian Airlines was the only international airline operating to Enugu prior to the airport's closure for runway renovations, he claimed.

In 2020, the Enugu airport reopened to domestic flights, and in August 2021, it will reopen to international flights.
