KAYODE FAYEMI AND PRESIDENT BUHARI (PRESIDENCY) |
Kayode Fayemi, the governor of Ekiti State, claims that President Muhammadu Buhari has told him on multiple occasions what role he intends to perform once his term as Nigeria's president ends on May 29, 2023.
On Wednesday, May 4, 202, Fayemi said this on Channels Television's Politics Today.
This news comes just hours after Fayemi joined the long list of APC presidential candidates who have stated their intentions to run on the party's platform (APC).
The governor promised to "retool the Armed Forces and security services" during his declaration speech, and that if elected, his administration would "adhere to the highest norms of decorum and decency."
"I've had chats with the president," Fayemi stated on Channels TV when asked if he has discussed his presidential ambitions with the president.
"For me, the president is a father figure for me, so I've had a range of interactions with the president," Ekiti Governor stated when asked if he informed Buhari outright that he wanted to be the next president.
"It's not always possible for those conversations to be made public." But, at all times, we've talked about the transition and the role he expects individuals like me to play in it after he leaves office."
Fayemi will face off against Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and Ministers Rotimi Amaechi, Emeka Nwajiuba, and Godswill Akpabio, and Chris Ngige for the APC presidential ticket. Other contenders include Ebonyi state governor Dave Umahi, Kogi state governor Yahaya Bello, and former governors of Abia and Ogun states, Orji Uzor Kalu and Ibikunle Amosun.
Former party chairman Adams Oshiomhole and Jigawa state governor Mohammed Badaru have also entered the race to succeed Buhari.
