Ariana Grande, 33, Steps Away From Public Life After Emotional Eternal Sunshine Tour Finale

Ariana Grande has closed one of the most significant chapters of her career — and walked offstage into quiet. The 33-year-old singer ended her Eternal Sunshine Tour in tears at London's O2 Arena on September 1, wrapping 41 shows across the U.S., Canada and the U.K., and confirming what her team told People in August: she is stepping back from public-facing work with no timeline for a return.

"I just wanted to say thank you so much," she told the packed London crowd, fighting tears, according to the Associated Press. "Thank you for 10 beautiful London shows and for 41 incredible Eternal Sunshine tour shows." She called the run "one of the most beautiful, extraordinary experiences of my life," closing her farewell by thanking fans for "being by my side all the way from Honeymoon Avenue to Hampstead." A representative told People the break follows "endless, ongoing public scrutiny," and Grande herself has stressed the decision was made long ago — not as a reaction to online commentary about her appearance.

The pause caps an extraordinary run. The Eternal Sunshine album cycle included her Academy Award-nominated performance as Glinda in Wicked, and the tour — her first since 2019's Sweetener World Tour — was described by Grande as "the most healing, beautiful, corrective, magnificent, special experience of my life." She has pulled out of upcoming commitments, including the West End revival of Sunday in the Park With George opposite Jonathan Bailey, which producers say will go ahead as planned.

Two months into the hiatus, the quiet has been real: no new album, no new tour, no future projects announced. Grande, who has been a global pop star since her teens, appears to be doing exactly what she promised — living a private life, on purpose, for as long as she needs.
