Clayface Projected to Stay Atop a Quiet Halloween Weekend Box Office

The Halloween weekend is shaping up as a quiet one at the North American box office, with no major new release expected to displace the films already in cinemas. That leaves last weekend's leaders to fight over a smaller holiday audience.

According to Media Play News, citing BoxOfficeReport.com, Warner Bros. and DC Studios' Clayface is projected to remain in first place through November 1, with $13.5 million in ticket sales, helped by a strong CinemaScore rating and promising midweek business.

According to BoxOfficePro, however, the race is close. It puts A24's You Can See Everything, about Elizabeth Holmes, in a $12 million to $17 million range, ahead of Clayface at $10 million to $15 million, and notes that Clayface opened at $24 million with an A-minus CinemaScore.

The two films appeal to very different audiences — a horror title for Halloween Saturday and a documentary expanding in its third week — which helps explain why forecasters disagree about which will finish first.

What happens next is straightforward: final weekend figures, usually released on Monday, will settle the ranking. Until then, both projections should be treated as estimates, not results.
