Lamine Yamal wrote his name deeper into the Champions League history books on Tuesday night, equalling Kylian Mbappe's record for the most goals scored by a teenager in the competition despite Barcelona's 4-2 defeat at Paris Saint-Germain, according to SI. The 19-year-old's superb 79th-minute strike at the Parc des Princes — powering past Warren Zaire-Emery before finishing past Matvey Safonov from an improbable angle — was his 13th Champions League goal, drawing him level with Mbappe's teenage record. Mbappe reached the mark in 23 appearances for Monaco and PSG; Yamal has needed 36, SI reports, but with his 20th birthday not until next July, he is almost certain to become the outright leader. Yamal has now become the first player from any of Europe's top five leagues to register at least ten goals and ten assists in the 2026-27 season, and he has been involved in 40 percent of Barcelona's 50 goals so far this campaign, according to SI. Coach Hansi Flick recently declared him "the best player in the world right now". The winger, who finished runner-up to Ousmane Dembele in last year's Ballon d'Or voting, is among the favourites for this month's award — and on this evidence, the record books should be worried, Livescore notes. The numbers behind the milestone are remarkable. Yamal's thirteen goals have come in 36 appearances; Mbappe needed only 23, but the Frenchman's record was set across spells with Monaco and PSG, while Yamal has done it all in Barcelona colours. Erling Haaland sits third on the teenage list with ten. According to SI, Yamal needs eight more to become the highest scorer before the age of 21 — a record currently held by Haaland — and with his 20th birthday not until next July, few would bet against him rewriting the record books entirely.
