Nearly Half of Singles Have Fallen for Someone They Were Not Initially Attracted To, Study Finds

Nearly half of singles have fallen for someone they were not initially attracted to, according to a new study reported on October 28, 2026.

The Kinsey Institute at Indiana University conducted its annual Singles in America study in partnership with Match, surveying around 5,000 singles across 120 questions, according to Men's Journal.

Good first impressions often go a long way, but the study shows they are not vital in the world of dating, according to the report.

Dr. Justin Garcia, the Executive Director of the Kinsey Institute, revealed the surprise finding that lacking initial attraction toward another person does not mean there is no chance of a future relationship, according to the report.

The dating scene has changed considerably, with marriages between high school sweethearts far rarer than in previous generations, according to the report. The study suggests attraction can grow over time rather than arriving only at first sight.
