Richmond Hill Online Voting Now Open for October 26 Municipal Election

Online voting opened in Richmond Hill on October 20 for the city's October 26 municipal election, giving voters six days to cast ballots from home, according to the City of Richmond Hill. Internet voting opened at 10 a.m. on October 20 and closes at 8 p.m. on election day, while in-person voting is available October 24 and 25 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on October 26 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters are electing a mayor, regional and local councillors, ward councillors and school board trustees for the November 15, 2026 to November 14, 2030 term of office. Voting locations and hours are posted on the city's website, along with the official list of candidates. According to the Richmond Hill Public Library's election guide, eligible voters received Voter Information Packages in the mail in early October with instructions for voting online or in person. The library also hosted a meet-the-candidates session on October 15 to help voters learn about the people running. City officials are encouraging residents to check their voter information now rather than waiting until election day. "Every election matters, and your vote matters," one local candidate wrote in a campaign post during the advance voting period. Turnout in recent Ontario municipal elections has been a persistent concern, with many cities struggling to break 35 per cent. The election comes as York Region communities face big questions about housing growth, infrastructure and taxes. With online voting open through election day, Richmond Hill voters have a full week to make their voices heard. According to the library's election guide, voters received information packages in early October with step-by-step instructions for voting online. Residents can also vote in person on October 24 and 25 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., or on election day itself from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., when polls are open citywide.
