The Japanese animated film "Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island" has claimed the top spot at the Korean weekend box office for the fourth consecutive week, according to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network for movie tickets, reported by SBS Star on November 2.
The film drew 221,657 moviegoers from October 30 to November 1. Its cumulative audience now stands at 2,583,857. Released on September 30, the film dominated the weekend box office for four straight weeks, crossing the 2 million mark in 25 days and surpassing 2.5 million admissions in 33 days.
Second place at the box office was taken by Brad Pitt's new film "Heart of the Beast," which attracted 162,795 viewers over the same period, bringing its cumulative audience to 215,242.
The four-week run puts the animated film among the standout performers of the autumn season in Korea, holding off a major Hollywood release to keep the top spot through the Halloween weekend.
