Jasir "King Ja" Junior kept his perfect record intact on Saturday night, outworking hometown fighter Tyrone Arzeno over six rounds to win a majority decision in the main event of Teflon Promotions' "RE:PLAY VOL 4" at The Grand Ballroom in Philadelphia, according to FightNews.
The six-round flyweight bout was a step up for both men. Arzeno had never gone past the third round, and the 21-year-old Junior, of Newburgh, New York, had won his only previous professional fight by first-round knockout. There were no knockdowns: one judge scored it 57-57, while the other two had it 60-54 and 58-56 for Junior. Junior moves to 2-0 with one knockout; Arzeno falls to 5-3 with five knockouts.
Arzeno, fighting in his hometown for the first time since his professional debut nearly ten years ago, pushed Junior late, and both men were willing to trade in the sixth round, with Junior connecting on a leaping left hook down the stretch to seal the decision. Arzeno had arrived on the back of four straight wins in Colombia over the previous 14 months, and had described the bout as a homecoming and a return to the weight class where he believes he belongs.
Four of the five bouts on the card went the distance. Philadelphia cruiserweight Vaughn "Vhustle" Adams turned in the best performance of his young career, sweeping Bamidele "Big $$$ BG" Gray-Adeleye over four rounds, 40-36 on all three cards. Derek Moore and Jerome McNeill each earned their first professional wins — Moore dropping David Bedai Quiros in the final minute of the fourth round, and McNeill stopping Jerry James with a body shot at 2:37 of the first. For Junior, the win over a veteran opponent is a step toward bigger fights as his young career gathers pace.
