Scottish trio CHVRCHES are returning with a new album. According to SPIN, the band's fifth studio album, All the King's Men, is due on 22 January 2027 via Futures Music Group, and it will be their first album in nearly six years.
The 11-track record follows 2021's Screen Violence. According to Consequence, the band took a break in 2023 after touring that album, and agreed that any return had to feel like a genuine new chapter rather than a repeat of what came before. Instead of working remotely, as they did on much of the previous record, Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty wrote and recorded in person in Glasgow, in a series of intensive three-week sessions.
The album was previewed last month with the single "Roses," a darker, guitar-leaning track in which Mayberry addresses the less comfortable side of contemporary Britain. The full tracklist runs from "Roses" through songs including "Evil," "Adore You," "Royal Blue," "Conman" and the closing track "Faith In Flying." The band have described the record as a deliberately British and Scottish collection, shaped by influences ranging from Massive Attack and PJ Harvey to folk writers Nick Drake and Bert Jansch.
What happens next is already mapped out. According to Consequence, CHVRCHES play intimate charity shows in Glasgow on 26 October and London on 29 October, both of which sold out immediately. A North American tour then opens in Philadelphia on 13 February 2027 and includes a Toronto date at History on 23 February, before a UK and Ireland leg in spring 2027 closes in London on 6 May. Presales open on 27 October in North America and 28 October in the UK and Ireland, with general sale on 30 October.
For a band whose breakthrough came through bright synth-pop, the move toward a sharper, more guitar-driven sound is the point of interest here. After the longest gap of their career, the test will be whether the Glasgow sessions produced a record that sounds like a restart rather than a reunion — and the early response to "Roses" suggests fans are ready to find out.
