Netflix has secured exclusive streaming rights to the next three editions of La Velada del Año, the creator-led boxing and music spectacle created by Ibai Llanos, covering the 2027, 2028 and 2029 editions, according to Netflix's newsroom announcement dated October 19, 2026.
The seventh edition will stream exclusively live on Netflix, which the company describes as "the beginning of a new chapter in its international expansion," the announcement says. The event has grown from roughly one million average viewers in 2021 to more than six million in 2026, with the 2025 fifth edition peaking at 9.3 million concurrent viewers — making it one of the biggest Spanish-language streaming events in history and a genuine internet phenomenon.
Llanos was quick to reassure fans about the deal's structure: he has not sold the event and remains its sole owner, with only the broadcast rights licensed to Netflix. The participant reveals, boxer interviews and weigh-ins will continue on his Twitch and YouTube channels, according to Advanced Television. "Bringing it to Netflix for the next three years gives us the opportunity to make it even bigger without losing what makes it special: the community that makes it all possible," Llanos said in the announcement.
The deal deepens Netflix's push into creator-led live events, following its expansion into live sports — including all 104 FIFA World Cup matches in Spain — and marquee comedy specials. The event has evolved from a 2021 boxing showcase in a Barcelona concert venue into stadium-filling spectacles at Madrid's Metropolitano and Santiago Bernabéu and Seville's La Cartuja, blending amateur bouts between internet personalities with live musical performances.
Industry analysts say the agreement gives Netflix a built-in young audience and new sponsorship opportunities, though translating creator communities into regular subscribers on a different service remains the central challenge. For Netflix, which is battling soft U.S. viewing and a trimmed ad forecast, owning the exclusive window on a proven live phenomenon is a low-risk bet on appointment viewing — the one thing streaming still struggles to manufacture.
