Seattle Gas Station Murder Suspect Caught in Chicago; Also Person of Interest in Kenosha Double Homicide

A 33-year-old man wanted in the fatal shooting of a Seattle gas station clerk has been arrested in Chicago by the U.S. Marshals Service, and police in Wisconsin now say he is also a person of interest in a double homicide discovered in Kenosha.

According to the Seattle Police Department, Michael Oneal Fleming was taken into custody without incident on the evening of October 20. Detectives had been seeking him in connection with the October 13 shooting of a 36-year-old clerk at a 76 gas station on Broad Street near Belltown. Officers found the victim behind the counter with gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Fleming was described as armed and dangerous, and King County prosecutors have charged him with first-degree murder.

In a stunning development, Kenosha police said the bodies of Rodney Brushwood, 57, and Rena O'Neal, 59, were found shot to death inside an apartment on Washington Road during a welfare check on October 19, KING 5 reports. Police named Fleming, who is related to O'Neal, as a person of interest in that case and said he was arrested in Chicago on Tuesday. KOMO News reports prosecutors have requested $5 million bail in the Seattle case, with an arraignment set for November 2.

Authorities in both states are now working on extradition proceedings, according to TMJ4. The investigation into the Seattle shooting remains active, and Kenosha detectives said they will pursue charges in Wisconsin in coordination with the district attorney's office.

Fleming's twin brother described him as being in a mental health crisis, saying he had been erratic and delusional, according to case reporting. Police said Fleming had previously worked at another 76 station managed by the same owner as the one where the clerk was killed. Extradition proceedings are now underway to return him to Seattle, while Kenosha detectives coordinate with Wisconsin prosecutors on the double homicide.
