Apple TV has announced the Season 7 cast for Slow Horses, adding Varada Sethu, Ethan Moorhouse, Tuppence Middleton, Merab Ninidze and Joshua McGuire to the acclaimed spy drama, according to Apple's announcement on October 19, carried by The Futon Critic. The new faces join Gary Oldman's Jackson Lamb and Kristin Scott Thomas's Diana Taverner as the series pushes deeper into Mick Herron's Slough House novels.
Season 7 adapts Bad Actors, the eighth book in Herron's CWA Gold Dagger Award-winning series. According to Apple's official synopsis, the season "sees Lamb and his Slow Horses on the hunt to find and neutralise a mole at the heart of British Government before they can bring down the state." Ben Vanstone is adapting the novel for television and serves as executive producer, with Robert McKillop directing and See-Saw Films producing, The Futon Critic reports.
The announcement arrives at a peak moment for the franchise: the Season 6 finale, titled "Judgment Day," streams today, October 21, closing a six-episode run that wove together two Herron novels, Joe Country and Slough House. That season also marked the surprise return of Olivia Cooke as Sid Baker, a character presumed dead since the first season — a twist that energized the show's devoted following.
Apple ordered Season 7 on July 8, 2025, and it is already filmed, keeping the show on its unusually reliable annual cadence — a fall 2027 premiere looks likely. The streamer has also confirmed Season 8, ordered September 15, 2026, which will adapt Herron's Clown Town across six episodes with Adam Randall directing all of them, according to Apple.
The renewal streak follows the show's Emmy win in September for the Season 5 episode "Scars." In an era when streamers routinely cancel shows after two seasons, Apple's multi-season commitment — made a full day before Season 6 even premiered — makes Slow Horses one of the most structurally secure long-term investments in prestige television, and a template for how to adapt a beloved book series without rushing it.
