Ayushmann Khurrana's spy comedy Udta Teer is approaching the 50 crore rupee mark worldwide after six days in theatres, according to trade figures reported by Cinema Express and Punjab Khabarnama on Thursday, October 29.
The film, which also stars Sara Ali Khan and was released on October 23, has collected an estimated 42.68 crore rupees worldwide, according to figures from trade tracker Sacnilk cited by both outlets. Overseas markets contributed around 8.5 crore rupees of that total.
On Wednesday, its sixth day, the film earned 2.65 crore rupees nett in India, according to both reports — a drop of about 18 percent from Tuesday's 3.25 crore rupees. Occupancy, however, held up better than several other recent Hindi films in the genre, according to Cinema Express.
Written and directed by Aakash Kaushik and produced by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, Udta Teer features an ensemble cast including Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover and Raghubir Yadav, according to Cinema Express. The film also marked the last on-screen appearance of the late actor Mukul Dev.
The film's run has room to breathe: with no major Hindi release this week, it is set to cross the domestic nett total of Chand Mera Dil on Thursday, according to Cinema Express, and could reach 50 crore rupees in domestic nett collections before Ramayana arrives in theatres on November 5.
What happens next is the first weekend after its opening week. Box office figures are trade estimates and may be revised as final data comes in, but the trajectory so far points to a steady, word-of-mouth run rather than a front-loaded opening.
