When bandits invaded the villages of Ungwan Maje and Ungwan Laka in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, one police officer was killed and 23 others were kidnapped.
In the early hours of Wednesday morning, bandits raided the communities and opened fire on inhabitants who were still asleep.
The gunmen assaulted Ungwan Maje first, abducting 16 people, including women and children, according to eyewitnesses.
They went on to assassinate a mobile police officer named Joshua Markus in the Ungwan Laka community.
The murdered officer was reportedly on his way home from the Rivers State Command, where he was stationed.
Following that, the bandits abducted the deceased's wife and daughter.
The event was also reported to Channels Television by Mohammed Jalige, spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command.
Security agents were on the lookout for the bandits, he said, with the goal of apprehending them and freeing the kidnapped victims.
