Honeymoons in 2026 look different from a decade ago, with experience-first trips, domestic destinations and micro-weddings reshaping how couples celebrate. According to Honeyfund's 2026 Honeymoon and Wedding Travel Trends Report, drawn from more than 10,000 real accounts and a survey of couples planning weddings in 2026, Hawaii remains the most popular honeymoon destination, followed by Italy at number two and Japan rising to number three.
The report puts the average honeymoon budget at 6,500 dollars, with 23 percent of honeymoons domestic and 31 percent of weddings destination weddings, two-thirds of those domestic. According to the same report, 44 percent of couples are opting for a micro-wedding, and 25 percent use AI for wedding or honeymoon planning.
Budget pressure is a shared theme. According to a Booking.com survey of 1,000 engaged and newly married people, reported by FactSnap on October 28, 63 percent planned honeymoon budgets of at least 8 million won, with accommodation the leading spending category at 79 percent, followed by culinary experiences at 53 percent and airfare at 48 percent.
According to the Booking.com survey, 71 percent of respondents preferred staying longer in one or two places to experience local life rather than touring many cities quickly, and 42 percent cited higher-than-expected airfare and accommodation costs as the biggest difficulty in preparing for the trip.
The trend for couples is therefore toward fewer, longer, more personal stays: one home base, local food and culture, and a budget weighted toward the experience rather than the ceremony.
