Disney+ and Hulu have issued a formal series order for a Glee revival, bringing back the musical comedy-drama more than a decade after its original finale. The order was confirmed on October 21, 2026, through a joint announcement by the two streaming services.
According to Variety, co-creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan have written a script for the revival and are involved in its development. 20th Television, the studio behind the original Fox series, will produce the new episodes. The order follows comments Murphy made in September about a finished reboot script.
The original Glee ran for six seasons on Fox from 2009 to 2015. Set around the New Directions show choir at William McKinley High School, it became a pop-culture phenomenon, won multiple Emmys and turned its soundtrack into a chart fixture. According to TheWrap, the revival order is a substantial step beyond the script-stage discussions of recent months.
What remains unclear is the shape of the new series. Murphy has said he has spoken with roughly ten members of the original cast about returning, but no actors have been formally confirmed. No episode count, production schedule or premiere date has been announced, and Disney has provided no further project details.
The revival will also have to navigate the show's complicated legacy, including the deaths of former cast members Cory Monteith, Mark Salling and Naya Rivera — a factor several former cast members have publicly flagged as weighing on reunion plans. Fan reaction to the announcement has been mixed, with enthusiasm for the return tempered by questions about what a new version should be.
For now, the confirmed series order gives the project a home, a script and a production path. Casting announcements will be the next major milestone, and they are expected to determine whether the revival leans on returning faces, introduces a new generation, or blends both.
